Global Indigenous Coalition

The Global Indigenous Coalition is a vibrant movement driven by the hopes and the urgent needs of Indigenous peoples worldwide. Our goal is to unite Indigenous communities through shared experiences, mutual support, advocacy, and cultural education, turning our collective struggles into collective strength. In this coalition, Indigenous youth, elders, and allies come together not just to share and learn but to actively shape a future where our voices lead the way to justice and true autonomy.

Our Key Pillars

  • Shared Experience: We forge safe spaces where Indigenous peoples across nations can share their stories, struggles, and successes. In these spaces—whether virtual or physical—we weave a tapestry of shared narratives that spans continents and cultures, fostering understanding, healing, and an unbreakable solidarity. These stories are not just shared among us—they are also tools for educating the world about our realities.

  • Mutual Support: Our network extends across the globe, ensuring that no Indigenous community has to face their challenges alone. We provide emotional support, mentorship, and resource-sharing that uplift our communities, strengthening our circle of care and resilience wherever we are found.

  • Advocacy for Systemic Change: At the core of our advocacy is the fight for child welfare reform and the protection of our communities. We stand united to demand and enact policies that keep Indigenous families together and reject the disproportionate removal of our children by child welfare systems. Our voices, amplified by collective action, advocate for the preservation of our lands and the respect of our treaties, challenging and changing the systems that have historically failed us.

  • Cultural Education: Our cultures, with their deep histories and vibrant languages, are celebrated and taught through workshops, cultural exchanges, and storytelling. By passing on our ancestral knowledge and practices, we not only preserve our heritage but also instill pride and resilience in our youth. Our educational efforts serve to fortify their identities and ensure that the essence of who we are is understood and respected both within and beyond our communities.

Our Commitment to Justice

The Global Indigenous Coalition is committed to a world where Indigenous rights are not only recognized but fully realized. We strive for a future where our communities can thrive within the security of preserved lands and protected rights, where our children grow up in the warmth of their culture and the strength of their community, free from the threat of unjust separation. Our mission is multifaceted but focused: to reform the child welfare systems that tear our families apart, to safeguard the lands that sustain us, and to ensure our rights are respected on every front.

By joining forces under these pillars, we not only face our challenges but also pave the way for a future built on justice, respect, and communal prosperity. This is the heart of our coalition, and this is the path we carve together—towards a world where every Indigenous community stands strong, united, and free.

Urgent Challenges Facing Our Youth

Indigenous youth globally are confronting dire, immediate challenges that echo historical injustices yet manifest starkly in today's world. These are not remnants of the past; they are acute crises that demand swift, decisive action. Our youth face overwhelming odds:

  • Homelessness: Indigenous youth are disproportionately affected by homelessness, a direct result of systemic neglect, discrimination, and the long shadows of intergenerational trauma. This is a stark reality that strips dignity and denies the stability every young person deserves.

  • Incarceration: From the plains of North America to the outback of Australia, our children are vastly overrepresented in juvenile detention systems, trapped in cycles of punitive injustice rather than rehabilitative support. This overrepresentation is not just a failure of justice—it is a theft of potential.

  • Suicide: Alarmingly high suicide rates plague our communities, with young people succumbing to despair, often feeling that their futures are foreclosed by the very societies they live in. This is an urgent call to action to restore hope and provide pathways to healing.

  • Premature Mortality: Violence, addiction, and inadequate healthcare claim lives at devastating rates, cutting promising young lives tragically short and inflicting grief and loss on our communities.

  • Systemic Family Separation: Echoing the dark eras of the past, Indigenous children continue to be removed from their families at rates exponentially higher than their non-Indigenous peers—often more than 10 times higher in many Western nations. This ongoing practice fractures families and perpetuates cycles of trauma.

These realities are not merely statistics; they represent real lives—our children, our future. The Global Indigenous Coalition stands as a response to these crises, a declaration that we will no longer stand by as our youth suffer.

A Fight for Justice and Healing – Happening Now

This battle for equality, justice, and healing is not a cause for the future—it is a pressing need of the now. Across the globe, in villages, cities, and reservations, Indigenous youth and their allies are voicing their demands for change. Our movement spans from remote communities to international forums, calling for action that cannot be ignored.

We are the legacy of ancestors who resisted and survived against monumental odds. Today, we stand with a new generation bravely speaking out against the injustices that still pervade. The time to act is now—we cannot afford to wait as more lives are lost and more futures dimmed.

Every moment of inaction is another moment our youth face peril. Therefore, we act now, uniting across continents to insist that Indigenous voices are not only heard but heeded and respected. Our efforts span fighting for policy reforms, safeguarding sacred lands, and creating safe havens for our at-risk youth. We are bound together by the belief that our children deserve a present and a future marked by hope, not overshadowed by pain.
