This 6-hour virtual training is designed for professionals, caregivers, and organizational leaders seeking to transition from outdated, institutionalized models of care to practices rooted in dignity, individuality, and human connection.
Participants will explore the core principles of deinstitutionalization, examining how traditional care structures often prioritize control, compliance, and containment at the expense of autonomy, culture, and psychological safety. Through real-world case examples, reflective exercises, and implementation strategies, this course helps learners recognize the signs and systems of dehumanized treatment—including rigid programming, punishment-based interventions, and culturally detached care models.
Instead, we promote a shift toward humanistic, individualized approaches that see the person behind the behavior, prioritize relationships, and foster environments where healing and growth can take root. Participants will learn how to design and deliver care that is flexible, relational, community-integrated, and responsive to the unique identities, histories, and strengths of those they support.
Virtual & self-paced (6 hours total)
Includes downloadable resources, reflection prompts, and a certificate of completion.
