Parenting can be challenging, especially when our children experience big emotions, difficult behaviors, or challenges we don't always know how to address. Even with the best intentions, it's easy to find ourselves reacting in the moment, questioning our decisions, or repeating strategies that don't seem to work.
But what if we could better understand what's happening beneath those behaviors, recognize how our own responses influence difficult situations, and develop the skills to support meaningful, lasting change?
Our Parenting Preparedness Program was created to help parents and caregivers do exactly that.
Developed by Indigenous Youth Services, this six-hour, fully virtual course takes parents beyond conventional behavioral strategies and introduces a different approach to understanding ourselves and our children.
Through our A.I.M. Model (Action, Intention, Motivation), you'll learn to look beyond what your child is doing to better understand the needs, experiences, and motivations driving their behavior. You'll also explore how your own emotions, experiences, and reactions influence difficult situations, developing the self-awareness and regulation skills needed to respond with greater confidence and understanding.
Using the Three S's of Intervention (Stabilize, Scaffold, and Supersede), you'll learn a structured approach to navigating challenging moments, building essential skills, and supporting lasting growth rather than relying exclusively on consequences or temporary solutions.
As an Indigenous-led organization, we recognize the importance of culture, identity, family relationships, and intergenerational experiences. Our approach respects the values and traditions of each family while providing practical strategies that can be adapted to everyday parenting.
Whether you're navigating challenging behaviors, looking to strengthen your relationship with your child, or simply want to become a more confident and intentional parent, this course provides a foundation for understanding and supporting your family.
Participants will be introduced to key concepts that help explain how behavior forms, why distress escalates, and how caregivers can respond more effectively.
The course includes training in behavioral formation, emotional and relational drivers of behavior, practical use of the A.I.M. Model, foundational principles from Therapeutic Investigation, relationship and trust building, and the Three S’s of Successful Intervention: Stabilize, Scaffold, and Supersede.
These concepts are taught in a way that helps parents apply them directly to real-world family situations.
This 6-hour online course includes structured learning modules, practical guidance, and interactive elements designed to help parents build confidence and skill. Families will move through a guided curriculum that supports deeper behavioral understanding while also learning actionable strategies they can begin using at home. The program also includes quizzes, applied assignments, live discussion opportunities, and a Certificate of Completion for participants who finish the course.

By the end of the course, parents will have a stronger understanding of why behavior happens, how to recognize support-seeking patterns, and how to respond in ways that increase emotional safety, trust, and regulation. More importantly, they will leave with a clearer framework for supporting their child with confidence, compassion, and skill.
Enroll in the Parenting Preparedness Program and gain the insight, structure, and practical tools needed to better support your child and strengthen your family’s path forward.
